What is a Benchmark Test :

The purpose of a benchmark test in my class, is to determine how well students are learning a specific set of competencies. The questions on the test are written to assess key levels of understanding. (enduring understandings) teachers can use the results of it to plan future instruction so that students receive additional teaching in the areas in which they show a lack of mastery and require additional assistance. In the United States, the vast majority of core subject area courses are designed to teach a prescribed set of skills and competencies. As a result, the pressure is on classroom teachers to ensure that students show mastery of those skills. In my own areas of instruction, a team of teachers have collaborated on the creation of specific common assessments or Benchmark tests to be administered at various points in the year. Students must reflect their learning on key concepts or skill sets and will need to demonstrate an 80% competency level in order to progress to the next area of emphasis for learning. Students can re-take the test several times to meet this standard and will receive additional instruction as needed to help them rise to this level of reflected learning. I have two  or three benchmark tests in each subject area . These tests are NOT state structured but follow core learning objectives for the content area.

What is the cell phone policy:
As a rule, district policy states that students should keep cell phones in their locker during class instruction time. Grantsville  High has allowed students to keep a cell phone with them for use during hall passing time and lunch. On several occasions Mr. Snow will allow the cell phone to be used in the classroom for specified student learning activities and research !  Note: Teachers will confiscate cell phones when being used at anytime for any reason other than Special authorization or Teacher approved activities.

What about media and videos shown during class instruction time:
All movies are content edited & only shortened clips are used for class instruction. If you would like a list of specific clips used in specific subject areas please      contact me by e-mail (see "classroom links" ) or check disclosure statement.
